The Bullshit Hall of Fame

When you hear or read the following items scrub your shoes and sniff the BS.

1- "Abbe Sensei changed his religion to become a Christian" - "Totally untrue" = BS"

2 - Several claims of "Abbe Sensei was the godfather to my child" = BS
How could a man with Abbe Sensei's religion and lifestyle take on the Christian responsibilities of a god parent?"
3 - "Abbe Sensei lived at my teachers home,teaching him all the budo arts" = BS
"Shortly after Abbe Sensei arrived in the UK he lived permanently with Matsutro Otani Sensei at 10 Stuart Rd, Acton London."
4 - "Abbe Sensei lived at my teachers home because he loved his mothers cooking" = BS
Untrue but comical. Abbe Sensei was the head of an organisation of some 35,000 members - I can just imagine Sensei saying " Forget the BJC! pass me another piece of pie".
5 - There are now so many claims "My teacher was taught JuJitsu (of one kind or another) by Abbe Sensei " = BS - Abbe Sensei was never known to have taught JuJitsu in the UK.
`Genuine` students of Abbe Sensei will tell you that Sensei never taught `any` form of JuJutsu.
6 - To claim that "Abbe Sensei left KyuShinDo in my Care" or any other part of his Budo in some person or others care is pure un-adulteratedBS
7 - Abbe Sensei had a ``one off `` meeting with two brothers as they waited outside the dojo in the rain to speak to him, which would lead to a claim that Abbe Sensei taught them some form of JuJitsu. more BS
8 - My teacher was taught by Kenshiro Abbe in Germany in 1950 before he came to the UK - More BS - Abbe Sensei came directly from Japan to the UK in 1955 at the request of the London Judo Society.

The Myths and Leg-ends of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei

There are now only a few survivors from that incredible 1950s/60s era, we are all in contact with each other, as we to try to protect the history and lineage from the `increasing ` collection of charlatans who use and abuse the name of Abbe Sensei, also the name of KyuShinDo.

There are names such as MayoShindo and perhaps there may well be a KetchupShinDo - The abuse and disrespect is endless.

We are so sorry,

Unfortunately each year the original students of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei grow fewer and fewer.

Sadly, with each passing year, there appears to be more and more claims to have been a `special friend` or student of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei.

Forgive me, If we fail to mention you, or your teacher, who were such a great personal friend of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei, - or perhaps - Abbe Sensei lived with you, or your teacher ? - teaching you (them) all the Budo arts - or just maybe - he loved your mothers home made steak pie n chips with mushy peas so much, he would neglect the 34,000 international BJC members to stay at your mothers home for weeks or months just for more portions of good old English home cooking.

Or maybe, just maybe - Sensei left in your care his theory of KyuShinDo, or perhaps something sacred in your loving care ?

Maybe Sensei was the god parent of your child ? - Perhaps your mother brought Abbe Sensei from Japan to the UK to teach you personally ? ( one of my all time favorites )

We also apologize to all those misguided people who claim to be `special` students, trained by Abbe Sensei in JuJitsu.

We do apologise,( onest we do ) there are simply just too many of you to mention.

I am sure you will not be de-turd as you continue with your bs claims.

Myth 1 Mayo Porkie File

Myth 1 - This is a porkie that really deserves to be the number ONE !...MayoShinDo website:... In the 1940's he ( George Mayo 10th dan ) started work on his own style, in the 1950's he became therapist and friend to Kenshiro Abbe, they both started on what they called Kyushindo. Mr Abbe left in 1960 due to injury in a car accident, leaving Mr Mayo developing the style over the years.......................................Facts: Abbe Sensei brought his KyuShinDo theory to the UK in 1955....More Facts:.... 1964 K Abbe Sensei went back to Japan for the Olympics. It was then that he had a car accident when another vehicle ran into his staionary car. He stayed in Japan until 1969. It was during this time that he visited Osensei and arraged for TK Chiba Sensei to come to Britain.

Myth 2 ~ The K Abbe pie and chips myth.

Myth number 2 - There are many great myths over the centuries, the most intriguing of all is the myth of so many who want to make their credibilty claim to Kenshiro Abbe's name, has to be " Abbe Sensei visited my ( or my teachers home ) and fell in love with mothers home cooking, so he stayed for several weeks / months, Sensei taught me personally. So after 40 years of Japanese food he discovers pie & chips....Believe me that myth is just a pile of pony. Abbe Sensei was running an ``international `` organisation of some 35,000 members. Abbe Sensei would have been driven to all seminars and the same driver would make sure he was home safe.

Myth 4 - George Mayo 10th dan

Myth number 4 - It is not our intention to discredit the dead, sadly Abbe Sensei is also dead and unable to defend his good name. We the direct students of Abbe Sensei find the myths and claims of Mr Mayo and his followers the most offensive of all. We have asked the MayShinDo group to prove their claims, they said they had proof, after 3 or 4 years we are still waiting. Mr Mayo claims to have helped Abbe Sensei create KyuShinDo, he also claims to have spent many hours in 1955 ( Abbe Sensei could not speak a word of English ) talking into the late hours discussing philosophy and psychology. pure pony. ( CRAP ) give me the pie and chips crap any day. Read the email letter to me regarding Mr Mayo from Robin Otani Sensei President of the British Judo Council...centre of page..Also reda the important letter from Mrs Teresa Reeve the widow of the late great Bill Reeves.(( Mr Mayo made what can only be an oppotunistic visit to Abbe Sensei's dojo where he took some equally opportunistic photos, end of relationship... Please take a look on YouTube at the Judo or Karate that these people associate with Abbe Sensei, then see the style of Abbe Sensei on the videos on the Ellis Video Channel, the confusion ends here...........We have exchanged several emails with this group who claim to have ``bin bags `` full of documented proof, three years later we are still waiting.. Myth 5 ~ Kenshiro Abbe and the broken windows.

Myth number 5 - A guy writes a book on martial arts, he needs to fill the book up somehow, he has never met Abbe Sensei but tells the following pile of pony " Abbe Sensei was unhappy with the breakfalling of the students at Sandwich street Kings Cross London. He says " I will show you how to breakfall " he then jumps headlong out of the window, smashing the frames and glass, dusts himself off and dives back through the broken windows onto the mat " That is how to breakfall ! " of course the owners of the property were happy with the broken windows if it only happened once a week. I was a regular at Sandwich Street dojo. The story is a pile of worthless pony. We often say " you couldn't make it up ! " yet someone did :-(

Myth 7 ~ Kenshiro Abbe's many friends.

Myth 7 ~ Without doubt the most popular myth of all is the `growing ` number of friends of Abbe Sensei. I have never ever heard a student of Abbe Sensei refer to him as a friend, once someone makes that claim the alarm bells ring loud and clear, it is either ` I was ` or `my teacher ` were great or good friends of Abbe Sensei. Bill Woods Sensei who was Abbe Sensei's loyal student, also secretary to Abbe Sensei & the BJC, I asked him of all the people who call themselves Sensei's friend, surely he was the only one to make such a claim, Bill replied " Harry, I do not consider myself a ` friend ` of Sensei, just a privileged student "

Myth 8 - Professor Kenshiro Abbe ???

Myth number 8 - Kenshiro Abbe Sensei has been awarded many titles since his death in 1985. I am sure that many are well intended and added out of misguided respect. I have never known Abbe Sensei by any other title than Sensei. I now see Sensei referred to as Professor - Doctor - Shihan. We often see people in the martial arts awarding themselves grades and titles, Abbe Sensei was no such man. He would often say " No matter your pretence, you are what you are and nothing more ! " ...So true.

Myth No 9 ~ The Unanswered Questions ??

Porkie Number 12 ~ Click photo ~ K Abbe was my teacher porkie ~ Have you noticed how the British students of the martial arts like to claim a Japanese teacher as their teacher even after only a couple of seminars, ignoring the British teachers who have taught them for many years. I often see ex students that are now teachers themselves. Ones that I clearly remember having taught a long time ago, yet, they never say they were taught by me or any other teacher from the ``Hut Dojo`` instead they claim to have been taught by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei..

I was Mr. Goodwin’s assistant, while John Berloth was yours.I have just become aware of the bewildering tale of Jack Poole. Your account of the facts tally’s precisely with my memory of that period. I can only conclude that poor Jack has suffered a mental breakdown of some nature and lives in a delusion.Congratulations on your success, my years as a student of yours count among the best of my life.

It is very sad to see KyuShiDo which was the lifes work of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei being so abused by people who have no understanding of the true depth of this fathomless philosophy..How can one claim to have a grade in a theory ??

How can people who have never met Abbe Sensei offer to teach KyuShinDo when direct students never truly understood, much to the consternation of Abbe Sensei.

M Otani Sensei

Click Photo for article " A Tribute M Otani Sensei 1896 - 1977"....... .Otani Sensei was an amazing Judoka who up until the age of 65 yrs would take any student or visitor for a randori session, he was also unbeatable on groundwork. He was a great friend and associate of Abbe Sensei and they did great things together in the name of the " British Judo Council " BJC. Robin Otani Sensei is now the President of the modern BJC. Sadly we have lost Billy Otani a skilled Judoka, and so with brother Tomio who was the British Kendo Council National Coach.

The Theory of Kyu-Shin-Do

Article - Click photo - Kenshiro Abbe created KyuShinDo to perfect his Judo. He `never` used the term KyuShinDo in relation to any other martial art. Now we see some awful stuff being named such as MayoShinDo KyuShinDo Karate. It is important to remember that Abbe Sensei was very upset that he felt that his own students did not understand the concept of his theory on KyuShinDo, yet, now we have so many claiming to be preforming something they don't have a clue about.
